DCJS Approved Courses



01I – Security Officer Core Subjects In-Service

4 Hours

An unarmed security officer/courier means any person who performs the functions of observation, detection, reporting, or notification of appropriate authorities or designated agents regarding persons or property on the premises that individual is contracted to protect, and who does not carry or have access to a firearm in the performance of their duties.


02I – Private Investigator In-Service

8 Hours

A private investigator means any individual who engages in the business of, or accepts employment to, make investigations to obtain information on crimes or civil wrongs; the location, disposition, or recovery of stolen property; the cause of accidents, fires, damages, or injuries to persons or to property; or evidence to be used before any court, board, officer, or investigative committee.


03I - Armored Car Personnel In-Service

4 Hours

An armored car personnel means persons who transport or offer to transport under armed security from one place to another, money, negotiable instruments or other valuables in a specially equipped motor vehicle with a high degree of security and certainty of delivery.


06I – Special Conservator of the Peace In-Service

8 Hours

A special conservator of the peace means any individual appointed by the circuit court pursuant to § 19.2-13 of the Code of Virginia on or after September 15, 2004, to perform only those powers, functions, duties and responsibilities authorized within such geographic limitations as the court may deem appropriate.


07R - Entry-Level Handgun Re-Qual

4 Hours

This class is required by DCJS in addition to a Range Qualification in order to renew your basic handgun endorsement. It begins with a 4-hour online session. Following the classroom session, the training concludes with a re-qualification course of fire at our range. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a range day. The cost of the online course includes your range fees.


08R - Shotgun Re-Qual

3 Hours

This class is required by DCJS in addition to a Range Qualification in order to renew your shotgun endorsement. It begins with a 3-hour online session. Following the classroom session, the training concludes with a re-qualification course of fire at our range. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a range day. The cost of the online course includes your range fees.


09R - Advanced Handgun Re-Qual

8 Hours

This class is required by DCJS in addition to a Range Qualification in order to renew your advanced handgun endorsement for personal protection specialist. It begins with an 8-hour online session. Following the classroom session, the training concludes with a re-qualification course of fire at our range. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a range day. The cost of the online course includes your range fees.


10R - Patrol Rifle Re-Qual

4 Hours

This class is required by DCJS in addition to a Range Qualification in order to renew your patrol rifle endorsement. It begins with a 4-hour online session. Following the classroom session, the training concludes with a re-qualification course of fire at our range. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a range day. The cost of the online course includes your range fees.


13I – General Instructor In-Service

4 Hours

The DCJS approved training alternative for the General Instructor Development Course is for individuals who will teach at least one DCJS course for a certified training school. The General Instructor Development In-Service Course is for those who currently have their Instructor Certification and want to renew it.


14I – Firearms Instructor In-Service

4 Hours

The DCJS approved training alternative for the Firearms Instructor Development Course is for individuals who will teach at least one DCJS firearms endorsement course for a certified training school. The Firearms Instructor Development In-Service Course is for those who currently have their Instructor Certification and want to renew it. You must contact the CCJA office to schedule range re-qualification after completion of online training. This satisfies the classroom portion of course only.


25I – Locksmith In-Service

4 Hours

A locksmith is any individual who performs locksmith services, or advertises or represents to the general public that the individual is a locksmith even if the specific term locksmith is substituted with any other term by which a reasonable person could construe that the individual possesses special skills relating to locks or locking devices. This includes words such as lock technician, lockman, safe technician, safeman, boxman, unlocking technician, lock installer, lock opener, physical security technician, or similar descriptions.


30I – Electronic Security Core Subjects In-Service

4 Hours

An electronic security sales representative means an individual who sells electronic security equipment on behalf of an electronic security business to the end user. An electronic security technician means an individual who installs, services, maintains or repairs electronic security equipment. An electronic security technician's assistant means an individual who works as a laborer under the supervision of the electronic security technician in the course of their normal duties, but who may not make connections to any electronic security equipment. A central station dispatcher means an individual who monitors burglar alarm signal devices, burglar alarms or any other electrical, mechanical or electronic device used to prevent or detect burglary, theft, shoplifting, pilferage or similar losses; to prevent or detect intrusion; or primarily to summon aid for other emergencies.


32I – Personal Protection Specialist In-Service

8 Hours

A personal protection specialist is any individual who engages in the duties of providing close protection from bodily harm to any person.


40I Bail-Bondsman In-Service

8 Hours

This class is required by DCJS in order to renew your Bail Bondsman Registration.


44I Bail Enforcement In-Service

8 Hours

This course is for individuals who currently have a Bail Enforcement License and are trying to complete their In-Service requirements to maintain their License. If you do not currently have a License then please do not take this course.

DC Special Police Officer Course


DCSPO Pre-Assignment Training Course

40 hours

Special police officers shall be required to satisfactorily complete pre-assignment training programs which have been prescribed and approved by the Mayor. Pre-assignment training shall include at least:

* 16 hours of Pre-assignment training: Arrest powers, search and seizure laws, the District of Columbia Official Code, and the use of force.

* 24 hours of Pre-assignment training: Terrorism awareness, Emergency procedures, including evacuation and first-aid Customer service.

This Training Does not include the 40 Hours of Firearms Training Regulated by MPD.


DCSPO Pre-Assignment Training Renewal Course

8 hours

Special police officers shall be required to satisfactorily complete pre-assignment training programs which have been prescribed and approved by the Mayor.

This Training Does not include the 40 Hours of Firearms Training Regulated by MPD.

DMV Approved - Driver Improvement Course


Driver Improvement Clinic Course - Coming soon!

CCJA Driver Improvement of Fredericksburg, VA is licensed and approved by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles DMV of the Commonwealth of Virginia to perform Driver Improvement services to the general public. Driver Improvement Clinics or driver improvement courses can be mandatory court ordered or voluntary. The courts or DMV may mandate that one take a driver improvement course because of traffic violations or point accumulation. Some people choose to take the classes to reduce DMV points by 5 (five) on their driving record and thereby reduce their insurance premiums. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a Test day. The cost of the online course includes your test fees.

Basic First Aid|CPR|AED (Adult/Infant/Child)

8 Hours

ASHI CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid combination training allows instructors an easy option for students seeking a comprehensive training class that builds the confidence to respond. This first aid, AED, and CPR certification course option is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting, and conforms to the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC, and the 2015 AHA and ARC Guidelines Update for First Aid. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to contact our office to schedule a CPR Test day. The cost of the online course includes your test fees.
